How do you incorporate on-site massage therapy into your workplace?

  • Part of an employee wellness program

  • Team meetings & trade shows

  • Reward for a job well done

Does your work force suffer from the dreaded mid-afternoon slump? Your employees are the backbone of your business. Show you are behind them 100% with on-site chair massage.

Did you know according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke "Americans spend over $50 billion each year on low back pain, the most common cause of job related disability... Back pain is the second most common neurological ailment in the United States - only headache is more common" (National Institute of Neurological Disorders 2008). In fact:

  • Over 50% of lost work days are stress related, which keeps about 1 million people per day from going to work.[2]

  • About 40% of job turnover is due to stress.[3]

  • Stress accounts for $26 billion in medical and disability payments and $95 billion in lost productivity per year. [2]

  • Research indicates that a 15-minute chair massage results in decreased job stress, increased alertness and increased speed & accuracy on math computations. [1]

Doesn’t massage put you to sleep? Not necessarily. Research shows that some massage therapy techniques enhance alertness and increases employee productivity. With stretching and percussion techniques the massage enlivens and energizes the body and mind. It's kind of along the lines of an enlivening sports massage. Help your employees get past that mid-afternoon slump. Chair massage eases muscle tension, a major contributor to chronic pain, repetitive stress injuries, and low back pain. It is proven that employees who receive regular chair massages at work find the quality of their work relationships improve (they can relate better). This can lead to improved customer service as well!

In one study published in 1996 in the International Journal of Neuroscience showed chair massage is useful for reducing anxiety and strengthening cognition. Upon comparing the effects of a 15-minute chair massage with 15 minutes of relaxation, researchers concluded the following:

  • Enhanced alertness, chair massage decreased frontal alpha and beta power (modes your brain goes into during relaxation).

  • Compared to the relaxation group, the massage group showed increased speed and accuracy on math computations.

  • Anxiety levels were lower only following chair massage, not after the control sessions.

  • A physiological measure of stress, salivary cortisol levels were lower following chair massage.
