GERIATRIC MASSAGE

There are many benefits of geriatric massage.
Some of them are:
-
Faster healing
-
Pain relief
-
Restored range of motion and flexibility
-
Reduced anxiety, tension and stress
-
Relief from depression
-
Enhanced immune function
Before I became a massage therapist my Grandmother suffered some debilitating health issues resulting in her moving into an assisted living home for seniors. To help her adjust to her environment I sat with her a couple days a week. The nurses would come and go and sometimes I would assist with changing her bandages. My Aunts said I would make a good nurse. Actually I think this might have inspired my cousin to become a nurse. I decided to go into massage therapy.
What this experience impressed upon me was the great care and thoughtfulness that was needed when caring of older ones. When I learned geriatric massage in massage school I realized how important having the right equipment is. Since older ones can be unsteady it is really important for a massage therapist to use an electrical lift massage table. They are expensive and at this point in my massage therapy career I cannot afford one. Until the day I get an electric massage table I will not be offering geriatric massage.
There are other massage therapists in Thousand Oaks that do offer geriatric massage.
